Construction

The frame of this piece was created using bent solid steel rod with a central lamp socket to hold an LED bulb and is finished with clear lacquer. To create the revealed polka dot pattern, I used a grommet hole punch on a single solid piece of upholstery-grade foam. This project required many rounds of pattern testing to achieve the right amount of tension while seamlessly incorporating the foam, all while allowing the user future access to the foam and fabric for cleaning or alterations.
