Tufted is a multifunctional bench that merges seating and storage with the tactile qualities of textiles. Crafted from solid ash, its gridded frame provides a sturdy foundation, while 15 bent laminations form a soft, quilt-like surface. This design draws inspiration from the care and comfort of quilting, while using the capabilities of bent lamination to mimic this inviting softness.
Each lamination rests freely on a wooden stop, allowing the bench to be rearranged between seating, surface, and storage configurations.
Process
Lamination
Each layer of veneer was laser cut before being vacuum formed over custom molds. This process was repeated for all 15 components.
